Opening: Vigourous gas, quite fine bubble, good cork.
Appearance: Straw to pale gold hallmarked by the merest copper tinge; a fine bead.
Nose: The bouquet lifts into the senses with restraint, length and harmony. Distinct pinot gris characters of savoury pear, citrus and a mineral edge all in concert with the delicate yeast of methode champenoise.
Palate: Fresh and vibrant with a light, creamy and yeasty mid-palate amidst distinct pinot gris characters, this wine is finely balanced with appealing complexity in a subtle and very satisfying structure, every element of which persists on the aftertaste; an elegant tour de force.
Comment: This unique sparkling style is a fine example of the commitment to excellence by Brandy Creek Wines, the intrinsic quality within the vineyard and a masterly successor to the much acclaimed 2005.
In a short number of years, this label has achieved extraordinary success, including a trophy or two at wine shows that focus on cool climate wines.
When assessing the 2005 vintage, James Halliday said...
"A truly astonishing wine, made from an unlikely base variety with great skill; the pinot gris must have been picked at exactly the right point, and treated with kid gloves thereafter. Trophy Gippsland Wine Show '07."
